SUSTAINABILITY

Live beautiful is our motto

We can argue about taste, but we perceive a piece of furniture only as ‘beautiful’ when everything is right, inside and out. That is why we strive for sustainable solutions at all levels of our organisation, with a minimal ecological footprint and maximum transparency.

With different projects (listed below) we support sustainability goals and embody the claims we have made as it comes to the future.

BE a chameleon

We offer more sustainable options, which you can recognise by our green chameleon logo. This animal is known for its ability to adapt, which inspires us to make the necessary changes for a better future.

Made in Europe

All our furniture is fully made in Europe. In that way, we minimise traveled miles and are able to keep a tight eye on the quality, as well as on the working conditions and environmental circumstances.

2,500 TREES PLANTED

2,500 trees will be planted in 2023 in bert plantagie’s corporate forests by Trees for All. Through our partner, Trees for All, 2,500 trees will have been planted in bert plantagie corporate forests, in Leersum and Madagascar by the end of 2023. Trees improve biodiversity and air quality. They contribute to the quality of life and compensate for our CO2 emissions to a considerable extent. Good to know: the wood we use for our furniture comes from production forests that are managed by third parties who ensure sufficient growth.

>65 more sustainable choices

We offer more sustainable options, which you can recognise by our green chameleon logo. Materials labeled with this logo, consist of at least 50% of components that are recycled, recyclable and/or certified sustainable. Would you rather supply your own fabric or leather? That is also possible. The choice is always yours!

The wood we use is predominantly certified and purchased locally, from suppliers who guarantee continuity.

As it comes to leather, it is good to know that the entire life cycle of leather has a low carbon and water footprint, considering the durability and longevity of the product. Leather is recycable and eventually biodegradable. Trained employees work and process the leather we use in Europe under the best possible conditions for people and the environment, in accordance with local laws and regulations.

GREEN CHAIRS IN DOZENS OF COLOURS

Young designers share their view on the world and the future with us and we give them the freedom to shape and sculpt a new generation of furniture. Experienced and succesfull product developers are there to support them all the way. For example, Puck Steenkist co-created the Filia with her father Stefan Steenkist. She sees the parts of a chair as seperate products, that should be easy to replace, recycle and transport.

Besides developing new products, we look at existing models in a different way. We are stripping them of anything unnessecary and are replacing traditional parts and materials with environmental friendly alternatives. For example, we created the Kiko Green, with coconut fibre and latex instead of foam, an fsc certified wooden shell as core and four more sustainable fabrics to choose from.

85,950 KG GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS SAVED

We have taken drastic steps to reduce waste. By purchasing a cardboard folding machine, we can now pack most of our table legs and frames so securely that plastic isn’t required to prevent transport damage. The plastic we use to protect our chairs is recycled and the amount we use has been halved. In addition, together with our partners, we ensure that no packaging material is left with consumers. Through our partner Interzero, in 2021 alone, we saved 762 tonnes of material by recycling and thus reduced our greenhouse gas emissions by 85,950kg.
